while the boys are gone...

First time making pancakes on the griddle!

Crafts- one of Eva's all time favorite things to do!

With Elijah gone, these two became quite close, which is different from normal. Eva really went down to Zach's level, and many times I'd hear them laughing and laughing over some crazy game they were playing.

Working in the kitchen might be a close second to crafts for Eva. Here are the sugar cookies we made and are midway through frosting. Check out Zach's face... he pulled a tub over to the table to get up to look. :)

Zach smiles easily and loves to laugh. Here he is with his favorite caribou. I call it a caribou, but then  I'm not entirely sure what a caribou actually looks like.

Eva making last minute adjustments to the picture she drew for Dad and Elijah's return.

Eva hanging out with me as I do some language study. I have a favorite place just a few minutes away, quite and peaceful, for studying on my own. This week and last were the exceptions in having Eva along, but she was awesome and quietly entertained herself.

The craft above led to a new necklace, bracelet, and ring.  I told her that the beads were too big for making a ring, but she's an outside the box thinker, unlike me, and she'll often figure out a way to make things work when I won't even give it a first try. That's what she did here, and it worked perfectly. :)

fun on the road

Pictures from our recent trip through the province... first leg by truck, second leg by bicycle!

Dirt roads all the way

Another driver on the road

Road condition was mostly bad due to the combo of rainy season & dirt roads

Women collecting water from a river

The road ended at this river, with water too high for the truck to cross. So the bikes were unloaded from the truck and the boat carried them across the river.

Keeping balance

Biking off on the next leg of the trip!

Beautiful! rice fields and mountains!

smiles for mom

Zach with his new big boy booster, sitting at the table just like his big brother and sister!

Are these kids growing up in a place with constant power outages or what? Reading w/ her flashlight, prepared for the imminent power failure. She cracks me up!

lunch at the river

This super spicy dipping sauce is Elijah's favorite. He dunks his pork in the peppers and eats it, then gasps for water, and as the spicy starts to go away, he'll dip again. He can easily down a whole bottle of water as he eats his pork. haha! These boys love their bbq pork and sticky rice.

Eva loves special time w/ mom and dad

Zach likes to fill his mouth until his cheeks are bulging and chewing gets difficult

Great food, great kids, great fun!

eva's day

Check out Eva's smile here! She is in heaven b/c her friends are finally back! It's been 8 months since there have been any English speaking kids in town, and Eva was overjoyed.

The next morning, when she saw these dolls sitting out, she got a big smile, and said, "I just remembered my friends!"

living without electricity

This one wasn't naps outside... but the power is off & it's raining, so the kiddos are hanging in the sala again. Can you see what they're doing? (besides throwing shoes, dishes, & broom to the ground)

Reading! Yee haw!! Rock on guys. You make me proud. :)
