Saturday morning with Elijah

One morning recently I decided to keep the camera ready in my pocket to snap shots of what it is that Elijah does all day. Haha! He's such a great kid! This was a Saturday morning, and here's what he was up to...

Yard transformation

Here are a few pictures from our new back yard. It's a great yard, hours and hours of fun for the kids. It's also a mess. Here's a random corner shot from the back of the yard.

This shot is zoomed in just a bit. This is what I call a snake friendly area. As the kids would say, "Watch out for snicker-snackers!"

Now to zoom really close, parts of the yard seem actually more like a dump area. At first I just could not believe all the trash. I kept walking back and forth wondering what on earth? Now that I've lived here a couple months and realize first hand what it means to not have trash pickup on our street, I begin to understand the dilemma of what to do with trash.

Random piles of tile for example. What would you do with it? I noticed several uses for it here already. It's already been used to patch up holes in our walls, as evidenced by the rooms in our house with 5 different tile colors. It's already been used to build up the ground around the trunks of trees, presumably to hold the water in better when watering. It's already been used to cover a very dangerous hole in the top of the lid on our well. Now what to do with the rest? Now I begin to understand the problem. What do I do with my own piles of trash?

I'm not sure what the kids are looking at here. Maybe they heard a sound and are thinking about snicker-snackers. We all think about snicker-snackers when cleaning out areas like this.

I don't feel like the above pictures do justice to the situation here. Here's a pic I snapped of a rusted can, Did you know there are actually 15 different pieces of trash in this picture?

And here we are at the end. All that's left is to haul the very last 2 buckets away. And that's how it goes. One little section of the yard at a time. I actually like work like this, if that's not the weirdest thing ever. At the start of the day it's like this, at the end of the day it's like this- quick transformation. Most of my life is bit by bit on different things, so when I get to see something change this fast in front of my eyes, it makes me pretty happy. I'm going to sleep well tonight.
