Step One: procure forest product
Step Two: wash with soap and water
Step Three: (not really a step at this stage, but being a newbie, I commence lacquer application)
Step Four: preview product for wife
Step Five: drill holes in bamboo for light to shine through
Step Six: clean up holes with sandpaper
Intermission: hugs
Step Seven: more lacquer
Step Eight: attach wiring, cosmetic rope, and hang it up
Looking Good!
All Done!!!
Trade Secret: Either soak bamboo underwater for 3 weeks prior to construction or boil for a day in a large tank. If not prepared properly, the bugs will decimate bamboo lights within 6 months.

I love your new blog site! Now we can 'catch up' on your news & how you all are doing. The deck or porch is beautiful & the lights are sooo cool. What a process for the bamboo(almost typed "baboon" :) ). I had no idea it would take all that work to build/use it for the outdoors. WOW! You folks sure are creative & patient. I admire all your efforts to make your home "homey" :). Your kiddos are all in the same grades as are our 3 grandkids...they are growing up way too fast, but I love to always see & hear what they are learning. This summer Marlin started teaching them piano & they are doing so well. But sometimes they try sooo hard to do their lessons sooo perfect for him, that if they make a couple mistakes sometimes they start to cry :(. But that's where the "Grampa hugs" are called for :). Then they are fine & back to smiling again :). It's my day off & it's grocery shopping day for Thanksgiving day & laundry day & baking day...:).
